The university's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, School of Medicine and School of Dentistry are all internationally renowned and rank consistently high in UK league tables, and many of their courses feature in the top 10 subject rankings in the UK. In addition, the university was awarded Europe's Entrepreneurial University of the Year at the Triple E Awards 2025, further solidifying its status as a leader in innovation and education.
Part of what makes the university so special is its main campus. It's compact and in the city centre, putting students within walking distance of the best shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars. It's a bustling student community that feels like a home away from home.
The sports facilities are excellent, including an impressive gym and swimming pool and specialised pitches, playing fields and sports halls.
There are over 240 sports clubs and societies. With everything from academic options to support studies and hobbies to continue a passion or find a new one, there is something to help every student make the most of their Dundee experience.
The Careers Service supports students in finding a graduate job. They can also help students to find relevant volunteering opportunities or work experience during their studies.
Student Support
The University of Dundee's international advice service offers supportive, professional advice to all international learners. They are always on hand to answer student questions, and offer guidance on things like studying and living in the UK. They also arrange social and cultural activities, as well as welcome events. Arriving students can also have a buddy who will show them around and help them meet other students.
Students who want to improve their English can access a free 10-week language learning programme. Student support advisors are always available to provide guidance and help with any issues in a confidential manner, and there is a counselling service along with various other support services.
Student Safety
Dundee, the fourth largest city in Scotland with a population of around 150,000, is famously friendly and welcoming. The relatively small size of Dundee, along with the community feel of the city and campus, makes the city an enjoyable and safe place to live. On campus, students will find a mix of different cultures and nationalities.
The University has a dedicated 24/7 security team to help ensure safety for everyone on campus.
Graduate employment records of the University are excellent. The 2023 Graduate Outcomes survey published by the Higher Education Statistics Authority (HESA) shows that 90% of Dundee graduates are in work or further study 15 months after graduating. Dundee is also 6th in Scotland for graduate prospects (Complete University Guide 2024). The Careers Service supports students to find relevant volunteering opportunities or work experience, internships and graduate jobs.
Students who choose to study at the university will benefit from an excellent standard of teaching across all of its programmes and courses. Dundee has recently been awarded Scottish University of the year (Daily Mail University Guide 2025) has ranked highly in nine subject areas, with life sciences in the world's top 125 and law within the world's top 150 (Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2024).
Students can access world-class facilities, including a state-of-the-art library, extensive IT facilities and campus WiFi. Students will generally use professional-grade equipment and software which helps them transition into their chosen career upon graduation. Class sizes are as small as possible to ensure a personalised approach to learning, although this will vary depending on the subject.
All faculty employed by the university are experienced in their respective fields, offering extensive knowledge of their subject matter. They're passionate about teaching and helping to shape the next generation of industry leaders.
The University of Dundee is split into eight schools, each focusing on a different set of academic disciplines and with associated research centres or units.
Entry requirements for study at the University of Dundee vary by course. Applicants should check the specific entry requirements of their chosen course to see that they are eligible. International students typically need to provide high school transcripts (or equivalent) and may be asked to provide references and a statement or essay.
All of the courses taught at the university are done so in the English language, and students applying from a country where English is not the primary language will be required to prove proficiency in the language as part of their application. IELTS is the test requested with a minimum average score of 6.5 required for most courses. Some other test providers may be accepted, depending on the circumstances.
Any students who do not have the required language test score can still apply, but any offer made will be conditional, and students who can't satisfy the language requirements will ultimately be refused enrolment.
All students who wish to travel to the UK to study must meet the criteria for a study visa, as set by UK Visas and Immigration.

Undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships help students financially on their career path. Students can benefit from the university's generous scholarships, recognising and rewarding students for exceptional academic, community-based or other extracurricular activities. Students could be eligible for up to GBP 22,500 over a four-year undergraduate degree or up to GBP 7,500 for a postgraduate degree (Ts&Cs apply). Tuition fees for international students will vary depending on their chosen course, but a full breakdown of fees will be provided upon application. Students can also get advice from the university while applying on the typical living costs required for studying in Scotland. International students must provide proof of funds for their tuition fees (a bank statement or a guarantee from a sponsor) as part of their application for a study visa.
