Master of Science in Nursing - Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner

Adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioners are in demand. With the looming shortage of physicians entering primary care, the demand for primary care providers is naturally on the rise. The exciting trend of the patient centered medical home model requires a team of providers with increased need for nurse practitioners. Adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioners can practice in multiple settings and thus have multiple opportunities throughout their careers. From settings such as student/college health, to faith based health centers and internal medicine, graduates can apply their skills and their degree in a spectrum of nursing settings. Being an adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner is a rewarding and challenging occupation. Through engaging in health promotion and following patients across the health spectrum, AGPCNPs utilize their skills in ways that are meaningful both to their patients and their patients' families. Adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner education is based on an understanding of health sciences theory and clinical preparation that shapes knowledge, judgment, and skills deemed necessary to provide primary health care management, health promotion, and disease prevention to adolescents and adults. All MSN or a post-baccalaureate DNP applicants must have: Earned a BS in nursing or are in the process of completing a BS in nursing from a CCNE, AACN, or NLN accredited institution. Note: Successful completion of the BS in nursing must occur prior to the desired term of admission. Minimum B average in all undergraduate coursework (this includes all courses taken to satisfy the degree requirements for a BS in nursing, an overall B average is usually equivalent to a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale). Prior to their first term of enrollment, all admitted students must have a valid RN license in the state where they will be completing their clinical experiences. The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is not required for admission consideration to the MSN or DNP programs. TOEFL (preferred): 94 or higher (internet-based test), IELTS: 7.0 or higher.
