The University of Wollongong (UOW) is ranked among the top 20 modern universities in the world, and the top 250 of all universities across the globe. UOW recognises secondary qualifications from more than 40 countries and education systems and can assess students who have completed the equivalent of Australian high school (Year 12) for direct entry to the first year of a bachelor's degree.
If students do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry to their chosen bachelor's programme, they may receive an offer to study a pathway programme at UOW College that can guarantee entry into a range of UOW undergraduate degrees, at first or second year level.
Students who have completed a diploma, or partially completed a bachelor's degree, may apply directly for admission with credit transfer.
All students are required to provide evidence of satisfying English language requirements. Results in major international tests are accepted, including IELTS and TOEFL. Students can also meet the language requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.
Wollongong enjoys a very reasonable cost of living, meaning you can focus your efforts on your study, and not be worried about your finances. The lower cost of living in Wollongong is a major advantage of being located outside of a capital city like Sydney or Melbourne. The prices of rent, food and entertainment in Wollongong compare very favourably with big-city options, meaning that you can make the most of your study in Australia.
UOW offers a range of scholarships and country bursaries that help with the costs of study. These offer a tuition fee reduction of up to 30 per cent. Students will be automatically considered for a scholarship or country bursary when they submit their application.
UOW student Anne Fernando moved from Sri Lanka to UOW in 2015 to study Mathematics and Finance. Anne received an international student scholarship as well as one from her faculty, in the form of a fee reduction. "I was tossing up between a university in Melbourne, Brisbane and Wollongong, but the Wollongong course fees were a lot more affordable. On top of my scholarships I also received the Dean's Scholar award, which means I get a text book allowance every year."
UOW views its graduates as its greatest achievements. Employers in Australia and around the world agree, UOW is ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world for the quality of its graduates (QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2019).
University of Wollongong graduates also enjoy above average employment rates. The Australian Government's Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) shows that 75.5% of UOW graduates secured a job within four months of graduation. This is above the national average of 71.9%. UOW postgraduate students are also highly employable, with 88.2% securing a job within four months of graduating, as opposed to 86% nationally.
UOW has a strong focus on internship programmes and links with industry to ensure that students graduate with the skills they need to succeed in the global workplace. It also offers students career counselling and job-seeker workshops to ensure they are thinking about their careers and building their professional networks before they graduate.
The University of Wollongong's South Western Sydney campus at Liverpool is where the best and brightest students can earn an internationally recognised degree. This campus is the first major university campus in Liverpool and builds on an already thriving relationship between UOW and the Great South West.
Opened in February 2017, the new campus occupies three floors in the Liverpool City Council's Moore Street building. Students studying at UOW's South Western Sydney campus can choose from a variety of bachelor and master's degrees in business, commerce, computer science, information technology, international studies, law, nursing, and social work. UOW College also offers university entry pathways, recognised English Language courses and vocational training programmes.
Many UOW students undertake placements and internships at partner organisations in the Great South West region, including around 330 nursing students undertaking placements in local hospitals, mental health facilities and aged care facilities.
