Life abroad | Bristol – The place to go in Summer

Topics covered

The summer in the UK is shorter and drier compared to Hong Kong, and it's quite comfortable with cooler temperatures. However, during a heat wave, temperatures can soar above 30 degrees Celsius for a week straight. Coupled with the fact that British homes typically lack air conditioning (as the usual windy and rainy weather doesn't necessitate it), having a fan is essential for staying indoors during the summer heat to avoid discomfort.

Summer Cooling Tips

How do locals beat the summer heat? During the summer holidays, Britons often head to coastal cities and beaches. Children enjoy playing in the water and eating ice cream, while adults indulge in Fish and Chips at seaside restaurants and sunbathe on the beach. There are many beautiful coastal cities in the UK, with Bristol being a popular choice.

Leading the Trend

A few years ago, Bristol sparked a craze for urban slides in the UK. An artist set up a nearly 100-meter-long water slide on a sloping street in the city center during a weekend art event. Participants could slide from one end of the street to the other, which was thrilling! Although the water slide was only open for one day, it received an overwhelming response, with over 90,000 applications for just 360 spots. Following this event, many cities have emulated the idea, and it remains a popular summer activity.
