Master's Study in Australia and New Zealand

Recently, many have chosen to do a master's degree in Australia or New Zealand, mostly because of the prestigious international universities, quality teaching, range of courses and subject choices, and the potential pathway of getting a work visa after graduation.

There are mainly two types of master's degrees in Australia and New Zealand, Taught Masters and Research Masters, which generally take about two years. Many universities implement either a semester or trimester system, making it more flexible for applicants to plan their study ahead.

Basic requirements for a master's degree would be completion of a bachelor's degree and required IELTS results, relevant work experience would be helpful as well. There are also pre-masters and English courses available for those who do not meet relevant entry requirements for direct entry.

Popular master’s courses in Australia and New Zealand

Architecture

According to the Australian Institute of Architects, one is to complete a three-year bachelor's degree, a two-year Architecture master's degree and internship before they can take the Architectural Practice Examination, and eventually become a registered architect in Australia.

Data Science

Data analysis can predict future development of different markets, hence applicable to a large range of industries, including banking, finance, retail, technology, and medical care.

Business

While choosing one’s ideal university, students can refer to the overall university ranking, as well as whether their business school has received relevant accreditation (AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS). There are currently three Triple Accredited Business Schools in Australia, including Monash University, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and University of Sydney.

Occupational Therapy

To become a licensed occupational therapist in Australia, one has to complete a recognized occupational therapy degree and apply through the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.

Other than the big cities like Sydney and Melbourne, there are many top universities in other cities and designated regional areas in Australia, which are very popular among students from Hong Kong. For example University of Adelaide and University of South Australia in Adelaide, Curtin University and Murdoch University in Perth, and Australian National University and University of Canberra in Canberra.
