LoA for LPDP

LoA, first steps in preparing for an LPDP scholarship

Topics covered

As one of the government scholarship programs with great benefits, it's no wonder many Indonesian students are enthusiastic about competing for the LPDP scholarship. LPDP stands for Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (Education Fund Management Institute), and its management is overseen by three ministries: Kemenkeu (Ministry of Finance), Kemendikbud (Ministry of Education and Culture), and Kemenag (Ministry of Religious Affairs).

The LPDP scholarship covers all expenses for postgraduate programs like Master's (S2) and Doctoral (S3). For interested S1 or S2 students, it's essential to prepare themselves and improve their academic skills as they will be competing with thousands of applicants.

One of the optional requirements to obtain the LPDP scholarship is the LoA (Letter of Acceptance). Although it's optional, having the LoA can convince the LPDP interviewers that you meet all the requirements and have been accepted into your chosen university in the destination country of your study. This can give you a more secure position compared to entering the interview without an LoA in hand.

Let's find out more about LoA in the following article!

What is LoA?

A Letter of Acceptance or LoA is a statement letter issued by a university to prospective students. This letter states that the scholarship applicant has been accepted at the university.

The contents of the LoA also explain further information regarding the process of admitting prospective students.

In general, LoA is divided into two types, they are unconditional LoA and conditional LoA. The differences between these two types of LoA will be discussed in the following section.

Types of Letters of Acceptance

The Letter of Acceptance comes in two types:

1. Unconditional Letter of Acceptance

An unconditional LoA is a letter provided by a university stating that you have been accepted as a prospective student without any additional conditions. This means you don't need to fulfill any other requirements and only need to pay the tuition fees and attend the new student orientation at the university.

The Unconditional LoA includes information about:

  • Your chosen course of study

  • The study periods

  • Start date of classes

  • Further instructions like registration and payment details.

2. Conditional Letter of Acceptance:

In contrast to the Unconditional LoA, a Conditional LoA is a letter from a university stating that you have been accepted, but there are other requirements that must be met.

Some common requirements for receiving a Conditional LoA are:

  • Language proficiency requirements according to the language used in the university.

  • Academic requirements, such as a minimum GPA or passing a certain preparatory program.

  • Submission of additional documents, such as a statement letter or academic transcripts.

Once you fulfill these requirements, you will receive an Unconditional LoA.
