All you need to know about Australian visas

Which student visa do you need?

Determining the right Australian visa for your educational journey depends on the type of study you plan to undertake. The most common type is the Student Visa (Subclass 500). Other options include the Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) and the Training Visa (Subclass 407).

Online visa application procedure

You will need to create an account using DHA’s online application system — ImmiAccount — to manage your Australia student visa application. Here’s how: 

  • Create and sign into your ImmiAccount 

  • Upload the necessary documents 

  • Pay the Australian student visa application fee 

Indonesian applicants are encouraged to use the Document Checklist Tool available on the DHA’s website, ensuring all requirements for a student visa in Australia are thoroughly met. You can also track the status of your visa through ImmiAccount once you have submitted it. 

Visa requirements for Australia

There are several types of student visas for Australia; the one you need depends on the type of study you are planning to undertake. You are required to submit your student visa application at least 12 weeks before the orientation date at your institution, along with the following documents: 

  1. Visa application form (which your education counsellor will help you complete) 

  2. Visa application fee 

  3. Passport photographs (size 4x6) 

  4. Passport with a validity period of more than seven months when entering Australia 

  5. Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (once your counsellor has applied to institutions for you) 

  6. IELTS result (your counsellor can assist with booking your English test) 

  7. Academic and work experience documents 

  8. Statement of purpose 

  9. Evidence of financial ability (tuition fees, living expenses, expenses for dependents, return airfare).

After applying for the Australia student visa, you will need to undergo a medical check-up by a doctor and have the forms completed.

Once you get your student visa for Australia, there are a few ways to ensure it remains valid:

Application fees for a student visa in Australia

For international students, including those from Indonesia, the application fee for a student visa is AUD 1,600 (approximately 16,553,184 IDR). However, you will most likely have to include other costs of studying in Australia, such as health checks, biometrics, and police certificates.
