Selection criteria:
Students will apply directly to the Department of Sociology. The successful candidate will have their name forwarded from the Department of Sociology to the Student Financial Aid office.
Recipients will be notified via e-mail. Committee selections are final, appeals will not be considered.
Typically given out in the Winter and Spring/Summer terms.
Criteria
To be considered for this award, the student must:
- Be a Sociology major student or enrolled in the honors program, either part-time or full-time
- Have completed an independent study with a basic research component, a research based honors, a field placement where a research project was carried out at a community organization, or a basic research project as part of a research methods course requirement (e.g. Sociology 315, 416, 418). Reports created as part of a paid research project (e.g. a research assistantship or employment internship) are not eligible.
- Be the sole author of the submitted report (reports or journal articles that are co-authored with other students or faculty members are not eligible)
- Student reports from the last two academic years are eligible for the competition
- Detailed report specifications are available for students through the Department of Sociology's award criteria posting posted at the Department of Sociology website.
Students are required to agree to the Adjudication Process as set out in the Sociology Department's detailed posting, and by completing an Adjudication Process Agreement form that is available with the Department of Sociology's award criteria posting at the Department of Sociology website. The completed form must accompany the student's paper.
Disbursement Criteria
- Must be enrolled part-time or full-time.
- Must be in good academic standing.
Students do not apply directly for this award. Selections are completed by nomination and based on academic achievement.
