Selection criteria:
A minimum of one staff member for the office responsible for student awards and one from Student Affairs will select the recipient.
Successful applicants will be notified via e-mail. Committee selections are final, appeals will not be considered.
Typically given out in the Fall term.
This award was established in memory of Hayley Jayne Richman who was a passionate leader and supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. She encouraged everyone to seek academia and to never let any obstacles impact an education. Always waving her rainbow flag proudly, she selflessly volunteered her time and energy to her community and she continues to do so with this award posthumously.
Criteria
Applicants of all sexual orientations and gender identities are eligible.
Applicants must:
- be enrolled full-time at MacEwan University, and
- identify themselves as a LGBTQ+, an ally student of the community, or have LGBTQ+ parents.
Applicants must demonstrate how they have made significant contributions to a positive impact for the LGBTQ+ community with a written essay in 250 words. Examples include:
- the visible promotion of LGBTQ+ life
- fostering service and activism for LGBTQ+ people in the larger community
- demonstrating documented leadership, support, or involvement in organizations, activities, or issues that promote awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community
- actively advocating for LGBTQ+ youth and/or to students who are severely affected by bullying or suicide
Disbursement Criteria
For funds to be disbursed, successful applicants must be enrolled in a full-time course load and be in good academic standing.
