In making the recommendation, the selection committee gives equal consideration to: a. the likelihood of success in the applicant's research b. the likelihood of the applicant's future work and research to benefit New Zealand and c. academic achievement. Preference is given to those undertaking research in organic chemistry or those whose research has a strong connection with organic chemistry.
If, in any year, there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no scholarship is offered.

The purpose of this scholarship is to support organic chemistry research in students undertaking full-time PhD studies in the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences at Te Whare Wananga o Waitaha, University of Canterbury.
Tenure: For up to 360 points of enrolment.
