Mathematics Access Scholarships

Access scholarships are available for students of outstanding ability who are commencing their studies within the School of Mathematics.

We are offering scholarships, for the sum of £5000 each. These awards will be tenable for the duration of study, subject to satisfactory progress each year. If a student does not make satisfactory progress in any one year the award will terminate from that point onwards.

Scholarship instalments are paid directly to the recipient at three points during the academic year (October, January and April).

This scholarship is awarded to applicants from the UK who are accepted for full-time admission to an undergraduate degree programme offered by the School of Mathematics at the University.

The scholarship is not available to students already on programme. It is also not available to students studying Mathematics as part of a degree programme hosted by another School within the University.

Eligible students will have applied through the University and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS) and have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh.

The scholarships are aimed at students who are:

attending schools where relatively few students go on to higher education
living in low participation neighbourhoods, e.g. the lowest quintile in the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD20)
young people with care experience
young carers
from low socio economic groups
eligible for free school meals
involved in LEAPS or other Widening Participation programmes e.g. Focus West, Sutton Trust.

Eligible students will have evidenced, or be predicted to achieve, a strong academic performance before starting university. When offering scholarships, we will take the above factors alongside academic potential into consideration.
