Additional Criteria
You are care-experienced. We define care experience as any time spent in care at any stage of your life. Care may have been provided in one of many different settings, such as if you were:
in residential care
in foster care
in kinship care
looked after at home with a supervision requirement
During your last year of school or College, you lived in an area within Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation lowest 20% (SIMD20) or you lived in an area with an Acorn classification of 4 or 5.
Awarding criteria
For those students who meet the eligibility criteria, the scholarship will be awarded broadly based on academic merit. Successful candidates will be chosen based on the following criteria:
Excellent academic performance
Your motivations for studying your chosen degree
You will not be eligible for this scholarship if:
You are fully sponsored by your employer
You are already in receipt of a full scholarship
You already hold a Master's degree or PhD qualification
You are in receipt of another scholarship from Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh
We are offering one scholarship, which will cover full tuition fees and a stipend at the equivalent rate to that offered by the Research Councils of the United Kingdom (amount to be confirmed, for 2023/24 the amount was £18,622). All scholarship award holders are expected to be energetic members of our postgraduate community, and will engage with opportunities to present their work to the wider student and staff body during the period covered by their award. We offer our postgraduates a range of training and development opportunities appropriate to their programme of study. The Scholarship is open to students studying an MSc or PgDip at MHSES, online or on-campus. It is available for students studying full-time, or part-time over two years, but not available for ‘Flex' programmes or part-time over longer than two years. Some of our programmes have additional costs, that will not be covered by the scholarship. Eligibility Criteria : You must be a UK national domiciled in the UK You must be an offer-holder (conditional or unconditional) for an eligible Master's programme at Moray House School of Education and Sport In addition, you must meet at least one of the additional criteria: You are a learner with refugee/asylum seeker status You were over 21 when you began your undergraduate degree or you are a student with non-typical qualifications (qualifications other than Scottish Highers, A levels, or international equivalents) You were/are in receipt of a Young Students' Bursary, an Independent Students' Bursary, or a Care Experienced Students' Bursary as an undergraduate-as assessed by Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) You were/are in receipt of a Maintenance Grant as an undergraduate (if you started your undergraduate course after August 2016 you will need to provide evidence from the Student Loans Company to confirm your household income was assessed as £40,000 or less).
Eligible applicants should complete an online scholarship application.
In order to gain access to the scholarship application system, applicants must have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh. Please note that, following the submission of an application for admission, it can take up to five working days for all system checks to be completed and for access to be granted.
