Depending on what you need – and your budget - you will find various options for living on or off campus.Most universities offer on-campus residences. However in order to secure a room in residence, you must apply for on-campus housing through your institution. The cost of on-campus housing also varies across each institution and will depend on whether or not you want a private room and meals included.

If you would prefer to live off-campus, you can choose to live in an apartment, flat or house, depending on what suits your budget and whether or not you’d like to live in a shared house. The off-campus option is generally cheaper and most institutions can help you with finding the right accommodation that suits your needs.

If you are renting a property privately, it’s important to note you will be required to sign a lease which is a legal document that outlines all of your responsibilities as a tenant.

Costs for accommodation will vary depending on your personal preferences, university location and whether or not you’ve opted for on- or off-campus living. For a room on-campus, you can expect to pay between USD$1,000 and USD$1,500 per month, while off-campus living will vary dramatically depending on which state or city you wish to live in. You may also need to take into account additional monthly costs such as water, electricity, phone and Internet usage, insurance as well as other personal expenses.
