When we have to pack for a trip to Australia to study, what should we have on our checklist to make travel and accommodation convenient and comfortable without being too burdensome?
Australia is one of the countries that attracts a lot of interest from students worldwide who wish to study abroad. Naturally, studying in a foreign country is like temporarily relocating, and it is evident that Thai students also invest a lot of time in packing their belongings.
But how should we prepare for studying in Australia? When should we start packing? How should we pack?
Our IDP team is here to share some simple tips for a fun and smooth journey. The first step is to create a Checklist of various items for daily living. Of course, each person will have different items they want to take with them. But in reality, we can't take everything from our home. Aside from having to pass weight checks, the declaration of goods' value in Australia is very strict. Therefore, preparing only the necessary items is something we should always consider. For example:
Toothbrush, clothes and cold-weather attire, dried food (such as instant noodles)
Sanitary napkins, tissues, a shaving razor, and contact lenses
Laptop, adapter, charging cables
Stationery (pens, pencils, etc.) is cheaper to buy here.
Shoes (recommend one pair each of flip flops, formal shoes, and sneakers)
Cosmetics (soap, various creams for dry or sensitive skin)
One thing you should be especially careful with is medication for various diseases. It is advisable to bring a thorough medical certificate in English with you if you have a chronic illness that necessitates regular medication, in case you are subject to an inspection by the authorities and want to avoid any potential questioning.
Another very important thing is that various important documents, such as your passport, academic transcripts, diplomas, and letters from the institution you will be attending, should be kept as close as possible in the carry-on bag that you take on the plane with you. This also includes the money you carry, which should be an appropriate amount, not suspiciously large (not exceeding AUD 10,000).
Just with these, you will be able to travel with peace of mind and without anyone bothering you to make your Australian study experience miserable from the first day. If there are any other items you need or need to buy, such as cooking ingredients, various liquids, or other room decorations, we recommend buying them there, as the prices in supermarkets are not much different from Thailand, and it won't be a burden either.
