Wondering what the GED is and whether it’s suitable for you? The GED (General Educational Development) is a high school equivalency test recognized both locally and internationally. It allows students to apply for higher education, including Pathway Programs that lead to undergraduate degrees in the UK.
Focus: Practical problem-solving skills using basic math, geometry, basic algebra, and graphs.
Format: Multiple choice, drag and drop, fill-in-the-blank, select an area, and drop-down.
Duration: 115 minutes (no breaks).
Focus: Reading and analyzing information related to history, politics, and governance, using articles, graphs, tables, and maps.
Format: One part only.
Duration: 70 minutes (no breaks).
Focus: Understanding scientific concepts and data through charts and graphs. Memorizing the periodic table isn’t required, but understanding scientific symbols is essential.
Key Topics:
Reading for meaning in science.
Designing and interpreting experiments.
Using numbers and graphics in science.
Duration: 90 minutes (no breaks).
Focus: Critical thinking, grammar, and writing.
Sections:
Essay writing (1 essay).
Multiple choice and drag-and-drop questions.
Duration: 150 minutes (includes a 10-minute break).
Scoring: Each subject is scored out of 200. A minimum of 145 per subject is required to pass.
Retakes: Students can retake the test immediately after failing but must wait 60 days after three attempts.
Age Requirement: Minimum 16 years old (parental consent required for those under 18).
Registration: Available at www.ged.com. Tests are conducted daily.
Fees: USD 80 per subject (approximately THB 2,600), totaling USD 320 for all 4 subjects.
Once you’ve passed all 4 GED subjects, your scores can be used to apply for Pathway Programs or undergraduate degrees at top UK universities.
