The International Studies major helps you develop the skills to contribute effectively in this changing global environment, and interact with people with different backgrounds and world views.

To contribute to the increasing globalisation of the world, countries need people who understand the impact of global trends and issues, and can interact effectively in a multicultural environment. Intercultural competence is a skill highly valued by employers around the world.

In this major you can include courses from social sciences, business, culture, education, applied linguistics or languages. It’s a great addition to another major, especially in science, technology, engineering and maths. In your second year you can study overseas for one semester in the US, Spain, Japan, The Netherlands, Sweden, Korea or Taiwan.

With the AUT Bachelor of Arts you can choose from majors in areas as diverse as languages, international studies, criminology, psychology, event management and education. As you explore topics that unpack social issues, you’ll become a skilled problem solver, analytical thinker, communicator, researcher and questioner. The knowledge and skills you gain, combined with workplace experience opportunities in your final semester, will prepare you for meaningful careers in Aotearoa New Zealand and abroad.

International Baccalaureate (IB) with successful completion of a minimum of 24 points.
General Certificate of Education (GCE) with three A-levels including at least one C grade or better. A result in General Studies cannot be included among the 3 on which the application is based.
A minimum of CCC scores (7 points) across the NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY)
Acceptance of the NCUK English for Academic Purposes qualification as an alternative to meeting the English-language requirements, with a minimum of a C grade overall and no less than D grade in each component.
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall with all bands 5.5 or higher, or equivalent, TOEFL IBT 80.
