The Certificate in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is a 15-unit interdisciplinary course of study that engages students in critical thinking about social categories of gender, sex, and sexuality, particularly as they intersect with other social categories integral to the construction of gender, sex, and sexuality including race, ethnicity, class, and nation. Building upon the historical foundation of scholarship in Women's Studies, the Certificate in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies provides a space for inquiry regarding the social construction, lived experience, and politics of representation of bodies in a variety of social, cultural, historical, and political contexts. The Certificate provides students with core knowledge about women, genders, aid sexualities from a theoretical, multicultural, and historical perspective while also allowing students to select from elective courses across the disciplines to meet their own research, career, and educational goals.
