Recreation is vital for everyone as a means to unwind and maintain balance in life. Yet, for individuals facing physical, cognitive, emotional, and/or social challenges, recreation therapy isnt just leisure, it's a pathway to connect and engage with others. Learn how to make a difference through our accelerated Recreation Therapy program.
At Confederation College, our Accelerated Recreation Therapy Program equips you with the essential skills and knowledge to plan, implement, and evaluate a broad spectrum of leisure services. These services are designed for children, adolescents, and adults who face barriers to a healthy leisure lifestyle. You will learn to work with individuals and groups across all ages to assess their needs and interests, fostering independent and personally fulfilling leisure pursuits. The curriculum includes therapeutic recreation, developmental psychology, program and event planning, communications for community services, administrative practices, physical activity leadership, and recreation facilities management.
Graduates of the Recreation Therapy program find work in a variety of settings including hospitals, retirement homes, supportive housing complexes, correctional centres, rehabilitation/treatment centres, government agencies, older adult centres, community non-profit agencies and inclusion service agencies.
