Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences - Health Outcomes Research and Pharmacoeconomics

This academic program aims to train students in health outcomes research, pharmacoeconomics, and health behavior research from the perspective of comparative effectiveness and health disparities. Both the M.S. and the Ph.D. programs enable students to critically analyze cost-effectiveness, health outcomes, and health behaviors that lead to improvements in the health care system and the individual's overall health. Students will gain specialized training in these areas through didactic learning and research experience to prepare them for careers in academia, industry, government, and health care settings.


The program prepares graduates to be independent researchers, scholars, and educators in the following areas:

Health Outcomes Research assesses the results of health care services, providing evidence for the value of specific medical treatments or interventions that can be used to make better decisions and improve health care.
Pharmacoeconomics the application of economic principles, including cost-effectiveness cost-analysis, to provide health care services.
Health Behavior the application of socio-behavioral and health communication theories to studying and/or modifying patient health behavior.
