Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering

Aerodynamics and fluid dynamics, aerospace structures and materials, and combustion and propulsion are the three areas of concentration at Florida Tech for students seeking a master's degree in aerospace engineering. Located in the heart of Florida's Space Coast near Kennedy Space Center, Florida Tech was founded in support of the space program, and since 1958 has offered students a comprehensive aerospace and aeronautics education.

The aerospace engineering master's program prepares students for a challenging professional career or for further graduate study in the doctoral program, putting emphasis on advanced knowledge, problem-solving expertise, and rigorous scientific research beyond that normally obtained during an undergraduate engineering education.

Many Florida Tech master's graduates seek higher degrees in aerospace engineering at Florida Tech and other prestigious universities. Those choosing to enter the workforce after graduation can expect to find an abundance of job opportunities in design and development, field service, software development, and research at leading aerospace firms.

An aerospace engineering career is often related to national defense and demands a security clearance, which keeps jobs in the United States. As policies on noise pollution and better fuel efficiency continue to increase, there will be a rising demand for aerospace engineers. In addition, as governments refocus their space exploration efforts, private companies outside of standard space agencies are taking a leadership role in space exploration, which will expand opportunities for an aerospace engineering career.

An applicant should have an undergraduate major in a field related to aerospace engineering. Applicants whose bachelor’s degrees are in other fields are normally required to take some undergraduate coursework in addition to the program described below, as determined by the department head. Applications are also invited from graduates with undergraduate majors in the physical sciences or mathematics. In these cases, at least one year of undergraduate coursework in aerospace engineering is normally required before starting the master of science program. In evaluating an international application, due consideration is given to academic standards in the country where the undergraduate studies have been performed. Applicants from foreign countries must meet the same requirements as applicants from the United States.

English language proficiency:

Students whose home language is not English are considered to have demonstrated English language proficiency if they have accomplished any of the following: an Internet-based TOEFL (standard, home and paper) with an earned score of at least 79; or an IELTS with an earned score of at least 6.0; or a PTE Academic with an earned score of at least 58; or a Cambridge English: Advanced with an earned score of at least 180 (Grade of C); or a Duolingo English Test with an earned score of at least 100; ELS English for Academic Purposes level 112.
