The College of Music is headquarters to a variety of campus orchestras, bands, choral ensembles, jazz bands, and early music and baroque ensembles, 9 world music ensembles, and numerous chamber groups, as well as the Florida State Opera and the Music Theater Program. Each year the College of Music offers some 350 concerts and productions and regularly hosts national conventions, workshops, and festivals, such as the biennial Festival of New Music. Our rich heritage is important in providing us a certain perspective about quality and an incentive to strive for continuing excellence. But the real test of our future is what we do for you, the future students who will grace our rehearsal halls, classrooms, and studios. We seek students, at all levels, who are dedicated to achieving the best for themselves in their professional preparation. We seek students who will contribute to the rich and diverse musical environment at Florida State. And we want students who will appreciate the warm and friendly personality of our College. Florida State University has been an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1930.The FSU College of Music's Music Theatre Program is designed to create music theatre performers who are truly triple threats and who are prepared to work professionally when they have completed the program. Although students study in each area separately, the strength of the program is in its joint nature, allowing students and faculty to explore the connections that unite singing, acting, and dancing., In addition to performing in the regular music theatre productions, music theatre students are encouraged to perform in as many venues as possible. The College of Music offers a wide range of performance opportunities, including FSU Opera and numerous choral and instrumental ensembles. In addition, music theatre students have danced in FSU Dance productions and performed in plays by such authors as Shakespeare and Chekhov on The Mainstage. Each year, graduating students present a Senior Showcase in New York City, performing for an audience of invited agents and casting directors, master teachers, producers, alumni, and friends.
