Doctor of Philosophy in International Affairs, Science, and Technology

The Nunn School International Affair's PhD program provides an unparalleled opportunity for students with backgrounds in either politics or science and technology to deepen their understanding of international affairs through the advanced study of sub-fields such as international relations theory, international security, international political economy, comparative politics, and methods for social scientific research. The Nunn School's exceptional faculty conduct research on a range of topics in the fields of international political economy, comparative politics, and international security policy. In addition, faculty members possess strong regional expertise in East Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The level of experience and diversity of interests among the faculty offer an extensive and enriching educational experience. The Nunn School also hosts a variety of programs that allow close interaction with scholars and practitioners of international affairs.

Although most students who are accepted into a program hold a degree in a field of the social sciences or humanities, applicants with degrees in engineering disciplines, computer science, or the sciences are eligible and encouraged to apply. Applicants to the Nunn School's graduate program must have completed a four-year baccalaureate degree at an accredited university or college. Evidence of award of a bachelor's degree, its equivalent, or higher degree (prior to matriculation) from a regionally accredited institution, demonstrated academic excellence, and evidence of experience in the selected field of graduate study.

We accept unofficial transcripts at the time of application an unofficial transcript is simply an official transcript that has been opened. We do not accept screenshots of your grades and courses. If you are admitted, we will then require that you submit your official transcripts.

Georgia Tech requires evidence of award of a bachelor's degree, its equivalent, or higher degree (prior to matriculation) from a regionally accredited institution. Regional accreditation is the educational accreditation of schools, colleges, and universities in the United States by one of seven regional accrediting agencies.

The Nunn School requires a minimum TOEFL score of 90 and minimum section scores of 19 for the internet-based TOEFL or a 577 on the paper-based formats. The minimum requirements for the IELTS are 6.5 for reading, 6.5 for listening, 6.5 for speaking, 6.5 for writing with an overall score of 7.
