Master of City and Regional Planning and Master of Science in Geographic Information Science and Technology

The dual Master of City and Regional Planning and Master of Science in Geographic Information Science and Technology allows students to earn two complementary sets of strong educational credentials in two years plus one semester, rather than the three years required by the two separate degrees. Graduates of the program are prepared for employment in professions related to both geospatial technologies and city planning.

Students in the MCRP/MS-GIST internal dual degree program earn two complementary sets of strong educational credentials, and they graduate in only two years plus one semester rather than the three years required by the two separate degrees. Graduates of the program are prepared for employment in professions related to both geospatial technologies and city planning. The program's graduates work for a wide-variety of employers including private sector consulting companies, non-profit organizations, and government agencies at every level of government. MCRP/MS-GIST graduates are also well-prepared to pursue Ph.D. work in city and regional planning or geographic information science.

Entry requirement for Master of Science in Geographic Information Science and Technology
Three letters of recommendation. Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions of higher learning. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores (taken within 5 years, please see program listing below for score requirements). The MS-GIST committee does not apply a strict admission formula but considers the full range of information included in program applications. A 3.0/4.0 undergraduate GPA and a 3.5/4.0 master's degree GPA if applicable. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores of 150 for Verbal Reasoning, 148 for Quantitative Reasoning, and 3.5 Analytical Writing. TOEFL iBT Scores, if applicable, with a minimum of 100. TOEFL pbt: 600.

Entry requirement for Master of City and Regional Planning:
Admitted MCRP students have strong academic records and are able to clearly communicate their reasons for pursuing an advanced degree in City and Regional Planning. Applicants typically demonstrate academic performance that meet or exceed the following criteria for admission into the MCRP program:

A 3.0/4.0 undergraduate GPA and a 3.5/4.0 master's degree GPA if applicable.

TOEFL iBT Scores, if applicable, with a minimum of 100. IELTS Requirements - 7.5 (minimum band score for Reading, Listening, and Speaking is 6.5, minimum band score for Writing is 5.5)

We look for master's degree students who will successfully advance the quality of life in communities through planning work after graduation. Excellence in prior academic work is essential, but priority is given to applicants who have demonstrated effectiveness as leaders, analysts and/or designers in previous paid or volunteer settings.
