The M.S. in Chemistry at Howard's Graduate School provides rigorous training in chemistry research and real-world applications. The program prepares graduates to pursue careers in the private sector, industry, and government and to pursue further graduate study at the doctoral level. Our graduates have landed positions in industry, working for companies such as Intel, SC Johnson, Bayer Material Science, Exxon Mobil, and Merck, and jobs at federal agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The program welcomes applicants with various backgrounds, including environmental engineering, biomedical sciences, chemistry, mathematics, and atmospheric sciences, among other fields. As a student in the M.S. in Chemistry program, youll gain a solid foundation in research design and analytical instrumentation and practical training in a chemical laboratory and computational techniques. You can pursue study in a chosen chemistry subdiscipline, including analytical, atmospheric, biological, inorganic, organic, materials, medicinal, computational, physical, and polymer chemistry and nanochemistry. Youll enjoy the close mentorship of faculty committed to your professional development and opportunities to collaborate with faculty on research in modern clinical laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art chemical instruments. Recent research efforts have been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Cancer Institute, and the U.S. Department of Defense.
