Iowa State University was officially established on March 22, 1858, by the legislature of the State of Iowa and is a public, land-grant University, where students get a great academic start in learning communities and stay active in 800-plus student organizations, undergrad research, internships and study abroad. The university’s academic offerings are administered through ten colleges that offer more than 100 bachelors, graduate and doctoral degree in vast areas of specialization.

The University Library provides extensive research collections, services and information literacy instructioninformation for all students. Facilities consist of the main Parks Library, the Veterinary Medical Library, Design Reading Room, and a remote library storage building. The librarys extensive collections include electronic and print resources that support research and study for all undergraduate and graduate programs. Nationally recognized collections support the basic and applied fields of biological and physical sciences. Library holdings include more than 2,858,448 volumes and approximately 121,125 current serial titles and has access to 447,689 electronic books.
The main campus is located at Ames, Iowa, which is 30 minutes north of Des Moines, Iowa’s state capital and largest population and business center. The campus is spread across 1,900 acres and is ranked among the nation’s most beautiful campus.
