Master of Applied Linguistics and TESOL - 1 year

In today’s globalised world, the cultural and linguistic composition of communities is more diverse than ever before. The ability to express ourselves, to communicate with others and to decipher the multitude of messages we receive every day from both within our own culture and across others is fundamental to our existence in today’s modern society. In this ever-shrinking and interconnected world, the ability to teach English to speakers of other languages is a highly desirable skill. And the ability to teach with both cultural and linguistic sensitivity is even more valuable.

With its dual focus, the Master of Applied Linguistics and TESOL will provide you with an understanding of the complex relationship between language use and context, as well as a strong theoretical and practical foundation in the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL).

Hold a related merit-based Honours (AQF 8), Graduate Diploma (AQF 8) in TESOL or

AQF Level 7 bachelor’s qualification in a related field AND two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant approved work experience in TESOL with a recognised educational institution. Meeting the work experience requirement does not guarantee admission at the 1 year entry point, and the selection committee will need to consider the detailed nature of the applicant's work experience in order to make a determination or

AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in TESOL AND one years full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant approved work experience in TESOL with a recognised educational institution. English language requirements

• IELTS Academic - IELTS of 6.5 overall with minimum 6.0 in each band, or equivalent
• TOEFL iBT - 83 (Reading - 13; Writing - 21; Listening - 12; Speaking - 18)
• PTE Academic - 58 minimum 52 in each band, or equivalent
• Cambridge English (C1A or C2P) - 180 minimum 169 in each band, or equivalent
• Occupational English Test (OET) - (Reading - C+; Writing - C+; Listening - C/C+; Speaking - C/C+)
• Duolingo English Test (DET) - 115 minimum 110 in each band, or equivalent
