Doctor of Philosophy in History, Anthropology, and Science, Technology, and Society

HASTS is a doctoral program within MIT's School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Our students work at the heart of the world's most prominent institution devoted to science and technology. As one of the most selective of MIT's graduate programs, HASTS provides rigorous training that prepares students to define the future of the fields in which they establish their careers. Every HASTS graduate completes a final doctoral dissertation based on a multiyear investigation. The projects that our students undertake are vibrantly interdisciplinary and derived from each person's individual interestsfrom exploring the culture of data centers to tracking the supply chains that create modern medicines.

To be admitted as a regular graduate student, an applicant must have earned a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor's degree is awarded before they enroll at MIT.
