The East Asian Languages and Cultures (EALC) major provides intensive studies in the languages and cultures of East Asia, focusing on China and Japan, the world's #2 and #3 largest economies and important U.S. trading partners. EALC prepares students for careers in government, defense, science, engineering, technology, education, and publishing. This major offers a broad knowledge of East Asian cultures and languages, focusing on China and Japan, from various fields of literature, history, art, geography, and religion. Students can choose either China concentration or Japan concentration. EALC graduates have gone into a wide range of career paths and graduate education, including business, publishing, education, military service, and technology. Recent graduates have taken jobs in computer software companies, airline companies, the military, educational institutions, and publishing companies.
