Ontario College Diploma in Recreation Therapy (Intensive)

The purpose of Recreation Therapy is to enable all individuals to achieve quality of life, and optimal health through meaningful experiences in recreation and leisure. Recreation Therapy is a profession which provides service to, and advocates for individuals with physical, mental, social, behavioural or emotional limitations in a variety of settings such as hospitals, long-term care settings, day programs, community-based programs, and mental health centres. Mohawk College's Therapeutic Recreation curriculum has been successfully reviewed and determined to be in alignment with the Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO), and Essential Competency Framework (ECF). As a result, graduates of this program (283, 963) are eligible to apply for the Registration designation with the Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) upon graduation.
Individual and group presentations are a core competency in the program.

llied university degree or college diploma in Health Studies or Human Services (70% guideline) with at least 2 courses in psychology.
Examples of allied degree/diplomas may include but are not limited to: Child & Youth Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Early Childhood Education, BA-Education, Gerontology, Health and Aging, Health Science, Human Kinetics, Kinesiology, Neuroscience, Physical Education, Psychology, Recreation and Leisure, Social Service Worker, Sociology, BA-Science
English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language or you have earned the equivalent of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma or post-secondary education in a Country where English is not a first language, you will be required to provide proof of one of the following:

IELTS Academic overall band of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5
TOEFL iBT 80, no band less than 20
TOEFL Paper-based, overall score 550
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment), 70
PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic 58
CLBPT (Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test), overall score 7, no band less than 7
