The Master of Interpreting and Translation Studies will develop your skills in translation and interpreting in English and another language, with an understanding of both practice and theory. Not only is our course endorsed at the (Certified Translator, Certified Advanced Translator, Certified Interpreter, Certified Specialist Interpreter (Legal), Certified Specialist Interpreter (Health), and Certified Conference Interpreter levels by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI); Monash is the only university in Australia to be a member of the Conference Internationale d'Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interpretes (CIUTI), the world's oldest and most prestigious international association of tertiary institutions offering degrees in translation and interpreting. Aimed at students with advanced bilingual proficiency, the course offers a foundation in the theories of translation and interpreting, as well as training in research in the field. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to conceptualise translation and interpreting studies as an academic discipline in its historical, cross-disciplinary and intercultural contexts. There are two specialisations available in the course: Translation (offered for Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish), and Interpreting and translation (offered for Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish). Through professional internships, you will gain real-world experience, pick up useful skills to prepare for the transition from university to the workplace, and build professional networks, improving your graduate employability prospects.
