Mount Allison traces its roots to 1839 when Sackville merchant Charles Frederick Allison proposed the creation of a school of elementary and higher learning. The Mount Allison Academy, a school for boys, opened in 1843, followed by the Ladies College in 1854. The University offers a flexible liberal arts and sciences education that prepares students for any career path and to enter professional and graduate programs. Mount Allison prides itself on providing a high-quality academic experience, combined with a variety of hands-on learning opportunities in a close-knit community. It offers more than 50 different programs to choose from to create one’s own unique degree.
The university is committed to educating the student by providing a wide range of sport, fitness, and recreational opportunities that promote healthy, active lifestyles and the development of leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Mount Allison may be located in a small town, but students will quickly realize their biggest challenge is not finding something to do, it is rather trying to decide which of the many events and happenings around them to have time for. Sackville was named a Cultural Capital of Canada, its vibrant arts and culture scene includes exhibitions, theatrical performances, recitals, concerts, film, festivals, and more. The University is located on Canadas East Coast in picturesque Sackville, New Brunswick. A five-minute walk will take students from campus into downtown.
