Bachelor of Health and Physical Education in Athletic Therapy

The Athletic Therapy major will contribute to Alberta’s healthcare system by training graduates who are prepared to become Certified Athletic Therapists. Graduates will develop competency in emergency management, injury assessment, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation techniques, and clinic management and administration. These competencies will allow them to practice in sports medicine clinics, with amateur and professional sports teams, or at high school and post-secondary institutions. Some graduates will open their own private practices and all will have strong skills in the leadership and promotion of good health and wellness.

High School Applicant: must present a minimum admission average of 65%, calculated on the five appropriate Grade 12 courses.

Admission to the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education requires the following specific high school courses (or equivalents).

Applicants in all admission categories must present:

• English Language Arts 30 – 1 – minimum grade 60%
• Math 30 -1 or 30-2 – minimum grade 50%
• Biology 30 – minimum grade 50%

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 86 (min. 20 in each of four sections)

IELTS (International English Language Test — Academic): 6.5 (min. 5.5 on each band)

CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment): 70 (min. 60 in each band)

MET (Michigan English Test) (formerly Michigan English Language Assessment Battery MELAB): 62 (min. 53 in all four skills)

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic): 58 (min. 55 in each area)

Cambridge English B2 First, C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency: 176
