If students do not meet the required English language test scores or adequate academic requirements for their preferred courses, the university may offer them a course package. This incorporates their degree with an English language or pathway program at QUT College to help them acquire the required level of proficiency in the language.

QUT has two vibrant inner-city campuses in the heart of Brisbane: Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove. The campuses are connected by a free, accessible shuttle bus that runs every 15 minutes. Students are close to all the action, with cultural and commercial hubs within walking distance. Both campuses offer performance and arts venues, fitness and medical facilities, shops and food outlets. The Gardens Point campus borders the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, which is where the name comes from.
Students can access high-tech study and collaborative learning spaces, including workshops and simulation centres. The university's Education Precinct offers learning spaces, study pods and community areas interwoven with nature and technology. This space houses the Sphere—a digital LED globe that features a changing menu of visual content. There is also The Cube, an advanced interactive digital space, in the Science and Engineering Centre.
The university's Economics and Finance Bloomberg Lab gives students the opportunity to conduct financial analysis with actual real-time data. QUT health students can work with real patients under the supervision of experienced healthcare professionals at on-campus health clinics and simulation spaces. Law and justice students can test their skills in mock trials in the QUT Moot court. This provides a realistic setting for student to hone their advocacy skills, while learning courtroom etiquette and procedure.

QUT gives students ample opportunity to immerse themselves in social activities on campus. Students can choose from 120 clubs with focuses on sport, culture, music, politics, religion or special interests, or start their own club to connect with others who have the same interests. These clubs organise social events such as balls, formal dinners, trips away, lunch time barbeques and more. Joining a club is often a good way to get together with like-minded peers from all around the world an opportunity to build lasting friendships.
QUT offers students opportunities to represent, engage and connect through a range of sports – whether team or individual, social or competitive – including netball, tennis, football, e-sports, motorsport and swimming. Activities on offer for international students also include cultural celebrations and weekend trips.
Students have the chance to take part in many volunteer opportunities, including QUT Connectors, where they can contribute to building a vibrant campus community and help new students settle into university life. Another way to help other students succeed with their studies is to volunteer time with the QUT Peer Mentor Program, making it a great way to give back.
QUT has created a new education degree, the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Birth to Five) available from Semester 1, 2026. This course will teach the best practices in early childhood settings, focusing on play-based learning and the role teachers play in enriching and extending play and learning. This course is ideal for those aspiring to be kindergarten teachers and does not lead to teacher registration in Queensland. There are no subject prerequisites or non-academic requirements for entry.
The new Diploma in Architectural Studies provides students with foundational knowledge and skills in architecture before they move on to the second year of a Bachelor of Architectural Design or Bachelor of Built Environment (Honours). QUT is among the top 100 universities worldwide for architecture and built environment, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024.
The new Master of Strategic Design will equip students with advanced knowledge in strategic design and is tailored for experienced design professionals looking to further their education, or those from other backgrounds looking to gain a design qualification. Students are taught to apply design methodologies to develop products and services through creativity, connecting design, community engagement and corporate social responsibility. The course also involves site excursions, guest lectures and collaborations with corporate partners such as the ARM Hub, BMW Group + QUT Design Academy, and Queensland Health, including the Herston Biofabrication Institute and Clinical Excellence Queensland.
The new two-year Master of Data Science is designed to equip students with specialised skills in an in-demand field, teaching them how to translate data into impactful outcomes for organisations. As the premier research institution for data mining and analysis in Australia, QUT connects students with leading industry partners and the latest data science research.
