The Master of Arts in Criminal Justice (MACJ) is an interdisciplinary program that offers a comprehensive, rigorous, analytic study of crime and the societal responses to it. Our focus is on the application of theory and research methods in the development of initiatives, policies, and practice. In addition, we give special emphasis to criminal justice ethics, issues of diversity in criminal justice, critical thinking, and leadership. Our students go on to successful careers in all sectors of the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, courts, corrections, social service, policy, and research. Student internships are highly recommended but optional. Our students have interned a variety of federal, state, and local agencies, including Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, King County Prosecutor's Office, King County Medical Examiner's Office, King County Sheriff's Office, Pioneer Human Services, police departments in Seattle, Redmond, and Bellevue, U.S. Marshal, and U.S. Secret Service, and Washington State Department of Corrections, State Patrol Crime Lab, and Office of the Attorney General
