St Lawrence College

Prior to the formation of Ontario’s college system in 1967, some trade schools existed in the province. Many of those schools were established in the post-war years primarily to help veterans reintegrate into civilian life. By the late 1950s, tech wings were added to Ontario high schools to assist young people. A decade later, Premier William Davis, now regarded as the “father of the Ontario College System”, responded to an increasing need for technical education by creating colleges of applied arts and technology to train individuals for jobs. SLC offers more than 100 programs on its three campuses in area of studies like applied arts, business, community services, justice studies, hospitality etc.

At St. Lawrence College Athletics and Recreation are an important element of student life. Whichever level students choose to get involved, be it Varsity, Extramural, Intramural, or Recreational sports and activities, it is well recognized that this involvement positively contributes to the overall “student experience” while attending college. Athletics & Recreation actively operates on all three campuses providing quality varsity, extramural, intramural, and recreational opportunities for all students and receives tremendous support from the College and each Student Government body for its importance to the overall student life experience while attending college.

St. Lawrence Colleges campuses are small enough to be personal and friendly, yet large enough to provide a variety of extracurricular activities, many specialized programs, and all the services students will need to help them succeed. All three cities are beautiful, safe and fun communities with history and charm situated along the beautiful St. Lawrence River. They have tons of green space, lively down­town cores, and are close to major cities, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto, and just a short drive across the border to upstate New York.
