Bachelor of Science in Education (Bilingual/Biliteracy Education Teacher Certification in Early Childhood through Grade Six Core Subjects with Bilingual-Spanish)

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas State University offers undergraduate degrees that focus on the preparation and development of teachers and teacher leaders. All undergraduate programs in the department lead to initial teaching certification and have robust field experiences in local schools prior to clinical practice (student teaching).
After successful completion of the degree and passing scores on the required certification exams, graduates can apply for EC-6 Bilingual Core Subjects teacher certification. The EC-6 Core Subjects certification makes you eligible to teach in an Elementary School setting in Texas, as the teacher of record for all core subjects in Spanish and English. Any teacher who holds an initial valid Texas classroom teaching certificate and a bachelor's degree can later add additional classroom certification areas by completing the appropriate examination(s)

First-time college applicants are required to graduate or have graduated from a foreign secondary school with an academic profile equivalent to that of a U.S. high school curriculum.
Graduate with the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma.

When reviewing your application, Texas State will consider your high school curriculum, admission essay(s), extracurricular involvement, leadership, community service, work experience, quality and competitive level of courses taken and grades earned, in addition to other factors presented in your application.

We strongly encourage anyone who is not offered freshman admission to attend another college, complete 30 hours of transferable credit with a minimum GPA of a 2.25, and apply for transfer admission.
