Master of Music in Music - Keyboard, String or Guitar Performance

The music programs prepare students to excel in the disciplines of music teaching, history, conducting, composition, theory, and performance. To ensure that students' education is well-rounded and creatively inspired, Texas State offers a large variety of performing opportunities, including participation in opera productions, choir, orchestra, concert and marching bands, chamber ensembles, award-winning mariachi and salsa ensembles, and other vibrant cultural music groups.
The music faculty at Texas State received their training from the finest conservatories and universities in the world, including the Peabody Institute, Indiana University, New York University, Manhattan School of Music, Michigan State University, Eastman School of Music, Juilliard School, Northwestern University, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas at Austin, to name a few.

baccalaureate degree in music from a regionally accredited university
official transcripts from each institution where course credit was granted
minimum 2.75 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work (plus any completed graduate courses)
background course work in music
GRE not required
audition and interview
resume/CV (maximum three pages) including name, address, email address, education (degrees or special certifications), professional experience, scholarship awards, special recognitions, articles or presentations, selected community activity, and other information pertinent to the desired degree and concentration
statement of purpose (400-600 words with name and email in the header) describing the following:
past experiences in keyboard, string, or guitar performance
qualities, values, characteristics, and/or skills that make the student a strong candidate for the keyboard, string, or guitar performance program
the ways in which the personal learning outcomes of the keyboard, string, or guitar performance program relate to the student's personal and professional goals
plans to pursue doctoral studies as well, if applicable
three letters of recommendation

IELTS (academic) - overall scores required 6.5 and minimum individual module scores of 6.0
TOEFL iBT - overall scores required with a 78 overall and minimum individual module scores of (19 listening, 19 reading, 19 speaking, 18 writing)
