Master of Science in Chemistry (Thesis)

The United States is the top chemical producer in the world, accounting for nearly one-fifth of world production. Huntsville and the surrounds are the southern home of the US chemical industry. A graduate degree in Chemistry raises your knowledge and skill base to take on supervisory roles.
A graduate degree builds upon a student's firm scientific foundation to significantly enhance their knowledge and skill base. A Graduate degree opens doors. Graduates can expect to enter employment positions at a higher level, while a graduate degree may also be a requirement for progress beyond certain career ceilings.
The MS in Chemistry includes advanced lectures and laboratory work in organic chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and a choice of either a biochemistry, polymer chemistry, or materials chemistry specialization. Students will gain leadership experience either as a graduate teaching assistant or supervision of undergraduate students as a graduate research assistant. Students will learn to effectively present chemical knowledge in writing, or deliver an effective oral presentation of their research. Graduates are well situated for satisfactory employment or enrollment in a PhD or professional degree program.

Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

1. Have a minimum grade-point average of B (3.0) on the undergraduate record, and

2. Have a minimum total score of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Examination and a minimum score of 3.0 on the analytical writing portion.

Students admitted to the graduate chemistry program are assumed to have training equivalent to the chemistry B.S. degree recommended by the American Chemical Society. The ACS-approved degree includes lecture and laboratory work in elementary chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry (including instrumental analysis), biochemistry, elementary physics, and calculus.

Applicants must meet the following minimums on the TOEFL or IELTS. TOEFL (iBT): all sub-scores greater than or equal to 18 OR IELTS: all sub-scores greater than or equal to 6.0.
