Managers are essential to every organization because they work with people to make and implement the decisions that move organizations forward. The Management major prepares students to be productive and insightful managers. It enhances students leadership, communication, and analytical skills, provides strategies and models for solving problems ethically and effectively, and equips students to become valuable organizational members who make things happen in today's dynamic global economy. Students choose to pursue a general Management major or a Human Resource Management concentration.
Knowledge Base in Management: Students will demonstrate a basic knowledge of management-related theory and research by being able to recall, name, and describe common concepts in the following general domains:1. Organizational behvaior,2. Human resource management,3. Strategic management, Critical Thinking and Adaptive Decision-Making Skills: Students will be able to recognize, critically analyze, and evaluate options related to current and future management situations, including managing change by:1. Applying management-related concepts and theories to personal and work experiences.2. Analyzing and recommending solutions to common challenges using management-related concepts and theories as justification.3. Evaluating other recommendations and analyses that address management-related challenges.4. Assessing current and future workplace and industry trends. Human Resource Management Competencies. Students will demonstrate collaborative, communication and presentation competencies necessary for human resource managers, including:1. Personnel skills such as employee recruitment, performance management, and change management. 2. Teamwork skills such as leadership, followership, coordination, and communication.3. Presentation skills such as collecting data, citing appropriate research, and presenting information in a clear, organized, succinct, and professional manner for experienced and lay audiences in oral, visual, and written mediums.
