Doctor of Philosophy in Food and Resource Economics- International Development

How do different factors, such as poverty, population, technology, resources, trade and the environment affect humankind's effort to develop regional and county economies What role do agriculture, resource management, and international assistance programs play in the process of economic development, especially in countries where problems of hunger, demographic pressure and poverty are pervasive FRED faculty and students are involved in answering various questions about international trade patterns and trends, and the economics of development process.

The Ph.D. in Food and Resource Economics is designed to provide the student with rigorous training in economics, statistics, and applied quantitative techniques. Each student is exposed to core theory and to fields of specialization with the purpose to prepare the candidate for a professional career in post-secondary education, government, non-governmental organizations, private business, and international agencies.

3.0 GPA in Master's degree
305 GRE score, with at least 150 Quant
Course prerequisites with a grade of B or better in each of the following:
Calculus I
Statistics
Master's level Microeconomics
Master's level Econometrics
3 strong letters of recommendation
Applicants are strongly recommended to exceed admission criteria to be competitive for admission and funding
We offer four years of funding as a teaching and/or research assistant for all admitted PhD students. No separate application is required to be considered for funding. Applicants should include names of faculty with whom they would like to work in their statement of purpose.

Applicants with a bachelor's degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours is required.

International students who earned degrees at international institutions must submit:
Transcripts in both English and the native language
Copies of degree statements/certificates in both English and native language
