Master of Arts in Art History

The Graduate Program in Art History is committed to furthering education through critical methods of interpretation and study. The interdisciplinary curriculum provides the intellectual foundation necessary for developing critical judgment as well as the specialized training needed to conduct advanced scholarly research. Students work closely with faculty in courses, seminars and individual research projects to develop independent thought as well as thorough knowledge of the field and its critical methods. The Art History program at the University of Florida offers both the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. The M.A. is designed for students wishing to pursue the Ph.D. in Art History and for those interested in gallery, museum or other professional positions related to the visual arts. The Ph.D. prepares students for academic and curatorial careers in a range of fields.v

Submit certified academic transcripts, including degree statements for all university-level work.

Submit certified English translations of the transcript and degree statement. Consideration of an application cannot be given until the Office of Admissions receives ALL required credentials.

Master's: Applicants will have earned a baccalaureate degree in art history, or a closely related area, from an accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution. Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language relevant to your research area is required. The GRE exam is not required.
A written statement of purpose explaining why you are pursuing our graduate program. This is the space to share your interest in studying with faculty at the University of Florida. Please address the following: what research area of Art History interests you, what intellectual issues you find compelling, what experience you have that will inform your academic goals, and how earning this degree will help you reach those goals.

A section to electronically request THREE (3) required letters of recommendation from faculty or professionals who can speak to your ability to be successful in a graduate program.

You will need to allow time for recommenders to receive and respond to the University request, so complete and submit your entire application as quickly as possible. More information and directions are provided as you complete the online application.

A section to upload r'sum or curriculum vitae - Pursuant to Florida Statute, your application requires inclusion of all post-high school education and employment, as well as information about ongoing international affiliations and research funding. Please ensure this information is included on your curriculum vitae (CV) or r'sum.

This is an academic paper (midterm, final, honors paper, or thesis), a published article, or a paper presented at a conference.

A section to upload unofficial transcripts. For the purpose of initial review, the Office of Admissions accepts unofficial, scanned copies of transcripts (not screenshots of grades).
Applicants with a bachelor's degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours is required. For applicants from countries where English is not the ofcial language, a minimum score on one of these English Language Skills tests, IELTS - 6.0,TOEFL IBT- 80, PBT- 550.
