Our program prepares future researchers, teachers, and leaders to examine and address topics in language learning and teaching, including bilingualism, multilingualism, Second Language Acquisition (SLA), multilingual and multicultural education, ESOL, English Medium Instruction (EMI), English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) & and Technology Enhanced Language Instruction.
Our program focuses on understanding how humans acquire and use languages and the role of language(s) in education. Students will build on an interdisciplinary foundation informed by theory and research from language development, second language acquisition, testing and assessment, linguistics, anthropology, psychology, sociology, education research, instructional technology, and other fields. Our students have opportunities to learn through coursework, teaching practica, and applied research opportunities with faculty, industry, and peers.
