The new M.F.A. program in Film, Television, and Digital Media will prepare a new generation of graduate students with experience in contemporary production practices, specifically in producing, writing, directing, and management, as well as in the burgeoning digital media fields.
Students will generate content across multiple platforms, as well as find creative and management positions within the changing media landscape of film, television, and digital media. The first year will be based in Athens, where students would take 32 credits of course work learning fundamentals of storytelling, film production, and film history and criticism. In the second year, students will take 30 credits of course work. They will study, work, and live in residence at the town of Trilith, adjacent to Trilith Atlanta Studios while taking courses from UGA faculty. During their Trilith residency, production students will engage in capstone experiences and professional internships at Trilith and other locations in the Atlanta area. Meanwhile, some students in the writing program will work in observership either at Trilith or at another production location in Northeast Georgia.
Answering the need of one of the state's largest industries with new MFA Film program. Premiering in fall 2020, the MFA educates future directors, producers and cinematographers in two-year program starting in Athens and finishing at the Georgia Film Academy.
