Master of Social Work and Master of Science in Public Health - Maternal and Child Health

The dual degree program with public health focuses on macro practice and prepares social work students for program planning, management, evaluation, policy development, and advocacy in maternal and child health. A cooperative arrangement between the MCH Department and the School of Social Work (SSW) facilitates the pursuit of joint MSPH/MSW and MPH/MSW degrees. Simultaneous applications to both the School of Public Health and the School of Social Work are welcome for applicants who have had at least a year of work experience following their bachelor's degree. With that in mind, we encourage applicants who are interested in the Dual Degree program, but do not have the post-bachelor's experience, to apply only to the School of Social Work and then apply to MCH in the first year of social work training (by January 1). If you have social work faculty recommendations about your ability to do graduate work and your interest in the field of public health, your application will be more competitive.

To be considered for admission to UNC School of Social Work, you must provide documentation of the following:

Bachelor's degree in any discipline, earned from an accredited four-year college or university (or the international equivalent of a bachelor's degree)
Academic background that encompasses knowledge and world views from a broad variety of disciplines, Unofficial transcripts from each college and university attended, its international equivalent with an accredited institution an average grade of B (cumulative GPA 3.0) or better. One unofficial transcript from each university attended must be uploaded within the application. All unofficial transcripts must be uploaded to your application in order for your application to be reviewed. Please do not mail transcripts as part of your admission application, we only accept unofficial uploads for application evaluation.
