Master of Sacred Music - Choral Conducting

The MSM program equips students for professional careers in church music--where employment opportunities are plentiful--while also providing them with the foundations to pursue doctoral studies or other professional career paths, including music education, music ministry, and concert performance.

The MSM degree is a two-year, 48-credit-hour degree, consisting of courses in applied music, sacred music history and analysis, and liturgical studies. Students are admitted into one of three studios: (1) Choral Conducting, (2) Organ, or (3) Voice. Students are encouraged to gain expertise in secondary areas such as voice, organ, piano, continuo, and conducting. Each graduate is expected to be a well-rounded musician, possessing the requisite skills in playing, conducting, and singing to shape music programs in churches, schools, and the community-at-large

A bachelor's degree or its equivalent, as well as an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale.

Applicants to the MSM program typically possess a Bachelor of Music or a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Those holding a Bachelor's degree in other areas may also apply and will be considered for admission, these applicants should ideally be able to exhibit collegiate coursework (or the equivalent thereof) in both Music Theory and Music History, in addition to a record of performance experience (e.g. recitals in voice, piano, organ, etc.), The TOEFL IBT minimum score is a total of 80 points, with a minimum of 23 on the speaking section. The IELTS minimum score is 7.0. Duolingo English Test, the minimum score is 120.
