In the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, we design and build devices and systems that transform industries and improve lives around the world. Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines, which is exemplified in our robust curriculum, though which students will develop a strong understanding of mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics and energy. Acoustics is an interdisciplinary area of teaching and research. It includes basic acoustical wave theory, ultrasonics, underwater sound, transducers, nonlinear acoustics, noise and noise control, and environmental acoustics. The program remains concentrated in mechanical and electrical engineering, but several other departments, including civil engineering, aerospace engineering & engineering mechanics, petroleum and geosystems engineering, and physics, have faculty and students who participate.
