Applicants are expected to have an undergraduate degree in engineering. However, exceptional candidates with other undergraduate degrees can be considered for admission, but will be required to complete additional undergraduate leveling courses prior to beginning graduate work. The typical leveling courses required will depend on the student's background.
The department offers the Master of Science in Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and Environmental and Water Resources Engineering. The Doctor of Philosophy degree is offered only in Civil Engineering. Applicants interested in graduate studies in Architectural Engineering should apply to Civil Engineering.
Environmental and water resources engineering is a broad discipline dedicated to addressing environmental issues in air, water, and soil. It includes a variety of sub-disciplines, such as water quality engineering, water resources engineering, outdoor and indoor air quality engineering, ocean engineering, and hazardous waste management. Sustainable engineering concepts are infused into these sub-disciplines and include the long-term environmental, economic, and social consequences of engineering practice.
