UTSA's Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies degree provides the opportunity to examine the social, historical, political and cultural experiences of women from an interdisciplinary perspective. The emphasis on cross-disciplinary research encourages an informed understanding of women and issues of gender and sexuality across local and global cultures. Program curriculum contains feminist theories, gender and cities, themes of social history in the U.S., the biology of human reproduction, gender and crime, society and social issues, women in politics and much more.
A degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies prepares you for a variety of careers and/or advanced degrees. The BA in WGSS will prepare you to practice critical thinking, social justice, and advocacy skills in community-based/nongovernmental organizations, social services, education, and the public and private sectors. A degree in WGSS will also prepare you to pursue advanced degrees (e.g., MA or PhD) and professional school (e.g., law school). Alumni of the program are currently racial and gender advocates, community-based leaders, and K-12 and higher education educators.
The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies provides students with the opportunity to examine the social, historical, political, and cultural experiences of women and men from an interdisciplinary perspective. Emphasis on cross-disciplinary research methods enables students to pursue a theoretically-informed understanding of women and issues of gender and sexuality in diverse U.S. and global cultures and across time.
