Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre

Gain an excellent foundation in the fine and performing arts through a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor or extended minor in Theatre. This program is ideal for you if you are passionate about performance and interested in learning about all aspects of theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes. You can combine an extended minor in Theatre with another extended minor in one of five fine arts disciplines, including Art History and Visual Studies, Creative Writing, Graphic Design, Media and Communication Studies, and Visual Arts. The Theatre extended minor requires 15 lower-level credits and 20 upper-level credits. Because most jobs in the performing arts are short-term assignments, most actors, directors, and producers are self-employed. Hiring a reputable agent to represent you can help boost your success. Mastering special skills such as dancing, singing, playing a musical instrument, acrobatics, juggling, horseback riding, sword fighting, archery, martial art, or stunt work can open additional employment opportunities. Jobs also exist in related areas such as stage management, set or costume design, event promotion, lighting or sound management, scriptwriting, stunt coordination, fundraising, commercial video production, and more.

Option 1: Secondary school (for students with secondary school graduation only) B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent. A minimum grade of C+ in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (see Note). Note: Students may also present English 12, English Literature 12, English 12 First Peoples, AP English, IB English A (standard level or higher level), or out-of-province equivalent. Portfolio review. Students who do not meet these requirements will be considered for the Visual Arts diploma or Qualifying Studies. Option 2: University entrance (for students who have post-secondary credit in BFA-related courses) A minimum CGPA of 2.00 on all post-secondary credits completed and one of the following: 15 university-level credits in BFA-related disciplines (see Note) with a minimum GPA of 2.00 on these courses. A UFV diploma in Visual Arts, Graphic and Digital Design, or Theatre. A UFV Associate of Arts degree with an option in Theatre or Media and Communication Studies. Option 3: (for students who have post-secondary credit, but not in BFA-related courses) A minimum CGPA of 2.00 on all post-secondary credits completed. Portfolio review. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) — IBT score of 88 with no section below 20, or paper-based score of 570 with a TWE (essay) score of 4.5 or higher. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Academic format — score of at least 6.5., with no band score less than 6.0. MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) — score of at least 85. CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) — score of at least 70.
