Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies (SMF) is an interdisciplinary area of study that critically examines the intersections among sexualities, relationships, and family dynamics from theoretical, research, and applied perspectives. SMF plans rest upon a foundation of social justice and anti-oppressive practices that invite generative, critical, and inclusive discussions of issues and interactions that are salient to all human citizens. This area of study would be particularly relevant to those who intend to pursue, or are currently involved in, a career in the human services field, including health care, counselling, therapy, or teaching., Students may choose a four-year general major, an honours major (co-op and regular), an honours major with Honours Arts and Business (co-op and regular), an honours double major, or a minor. A Diploma in Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies is available for those who wish to do some focused study in this field, but who are either not seeking a university degree or already hold such a degree.
